Karkidakam is a month of great significance in Kerala. It is also known as Ramayana month. During this month, Ramayana is chanted in all Hindu households, rejuvenating everyone’s hearts and minds. Reading the Ramayana builds up our strength, and helps us to cope with the difficult days of Karkidakam. It is also believed that we attain moksha by chanting the Ramayana.
At our school, we hold Ramayana recital for a whole month. This recital is done in the afternoon before the lunch break. The entire school listens carefully to this chanting.
