On the 21st of June, 2015, the world celebrated its first ‘International Yoga Day’ with a vow to stay healthy and fit for the rest of their life. As we know, Yoga, if practiced properly, is the elixir of life. Yoga has its roots in ancient India, and was practiced by yogis for a healthy life.
In present-day India, we have a large number of yoga centres, and schools have also taken it up seriously to be practiced by all. As the Educational Board has found Yoga to have the ability to impart physical and mental health, it has been made a compulsory subject in most of the schools.
As a part of the International Yoga Day Celebration, our school also organized a yoga session for students of classes IX to XII, and for the teaching and non-teaching staff of our school. The session was held in the prayer hall of the school, where all the students of classes IX to XII and the teaching and non-teaching staff were lined up.
Sri Raveendran Master from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mahe and Sri Anandan, Retired Teacher, were the chief guests of the occasion. We started the Yoga session at 9:00 am with the chanting of prayer, which was followed by Amrita Yoga. After practicing this yogic exercise, we followed with ‘Surya Namaskara’. The session ended with Sri Raveendran imparting further knowledge about yoga and its value to the students, teachers and non-teaching staff.
