A seminar organised by the District Health Department and District Leprosy Cell called Balamitra was attended by Ms. Neetha and Ms. Dilna at Kuthuparamba Taluk Hospital on September 19, 2023. The seminar was held from 2:30pm to 3:40pm. The following points were discussed at the seminar: –
- Awareness generation on Leprosy
- How to eradicate the disease and what schools can do in this regard were discussed.
- Symptoms of the disease were explained. Mentioned below are the major symptoms which are to be noticed and reported to the department so that further steps can be carried out for confirmation and treatment: –
- Discoloured patches of skin, usually flat, that may be numb and look faded (lighter than the skin around)
- Growths (nodules) on the skin.
- Thick, stiff or dry skin.
- Painless ulcers on the soles of feet.
- Painless swelling or lumps on the face or earlobes.
- Loss of eyebrows or eyelashes.
A form was forwarded to the Principals /HMs of various schools to note down the details of such cases and to report so that treatment can be started at an early stage. Class wise data is to be collected for three weeks and forwarded to the department.
