Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Fit India Movement’ on August 29, 2019. The programme was telecast for students of classes VII and VIII, and they were taken to the prayer hall to watch the programme and the address by the Prime Minister.

The Fit India Movement which was launched on the occasion of National Sports Day aims to encourage people to incorporate physical activity and sports in their daily lives in order to be healthy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this nation-wide programme at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi. After a colourful presentation of India’s indigenous martial art forms, dances and sports, the PM paid tribute to Dhyan Chand, our great hockey legend. At the event, Modiji also spoke about modern technology which contributes to a sedentary lifestyle.

As part of the launch, the PM introduced a Fitness Logo, and children took the Fitness Pledge along with him. Everyone was asked to walk at least 10,000 steps daily and make it a part of their daily routine.
