The 7th of August, 2015 was an absolutely wonderful day for all of us at Amrita Vidyalayam, Pookode. We had a series of events related to Nalla Padam and the inauguration of our farming venture on that day.
The chief guests for this occasion were Sri Madhusoodanan, Vice Chairperson of the Kuthuparamba Municipality, Sri Jin Raj, Agriculture Officer, Sri Dhananjayan, Malayala Manorama reporter, and Sri Satyaraj, Krishi Assistant.
First of all, we were appreciated for our efforts related to Nalla Padam as we had received A+ for our projects. This function also served as the stage for the inauguration of the ‘Karshikadinaghosham’ at our school and the ‘Karshika Vilambara Jatha’.
The function started with the lighting of the lamp followed by prayer and welcome speech by our students. Following this, Sri Madhusoodanan and Sri Jin Raj addressed the students. The inauguration was conducted with the planting of a sapling by our chief guest and our Principal. Mr. Jin Raj distributed seed packets to the class representatives from class I to class XII. After this, Sri Madhusoodanan distributed seed packets to the teacher representatives of the farming venture.
As our school had received an A+ grade under the Malayala Manorama Nalla Padam project, we were appreciated for it by the chief guest and our school received a cash prize of Rs. 5000 and a memento of appreciation from Malayala Manorama Nalla Padam organizers. Our teaching and non-teaching staff and students were also appreciated for doing service in the form of clearing the gutter in the school grounds as part of the Nalla Padam project. This year, we started our ‘Service to Society’ project by donating Rs. 75,000 to one of our students’ parent who is suffering from cancer. This was a joint contribution by the school, students, ex-students, and teaching and non-teaching staff.
The last phase of this function was a rally or ‘Karshika Vilambara Jatha’ which was organized in order to bring awareness in our neighbourhood about the importance of organic farming. Students and teachers were divided into 3 groups, starting the rally from 3 different sides of the school and finally coming together at the Pookode junction. From there, seed packets were distributed to passersby and shopkeepers along with an awareness slogan and explanation about the importance of organic farming. Finally, the three groups joined together on their way back to school.
