Revering the Mother, the ultimate epitome of love and affection, was the theme of the pious ceremony that was performed at our school on August 3rd, 2015. This was the day that we performed ‘Mathrupooja’, which we do every year as part of our Gurupoornima celebrations.
To bless us on this great day, we had with us Swami Amritakripananda Puri, along with a group for singing bhajans. The day started with the students along with their mothers, fathers or grandparents being seated in the prayer hall. Swamiji started the pooja by offering flowers at the ‘Lotus feet of Amma’ as a mark of respect. The archana was chanted immediately after, and the entire prayer hall was filled with a divine feeling of spirituality and motherly affection.
Swamiji then led the students and elders through the steps of the Mathrupooja, which is performed by offering flowers at the feet of one’s elders. His instructions were followed to a tee by everyone in the hall. The bhajans that followed the pooja brought an aura of divinity to the prayer hall. The pooja ended with the distribution of prasadam to all the students, parents, and teaching and non-teaching staff.
