WORKSHOP ON MAKING SOAP, SOAP POWDER, CANDLE AND PHENOYL

With Amma’s blessings, we have taken up a lot of projects to serve the poor and needy. As a part of this, on the 28th and 29th of January, 2015, a workshop on making soap, soap powder, candle and phenoyl was conducted at Amrita Vidyalayam, Kuthuparamba, for our students and staff. The two day training programme was conducted by Mr. Vinuraj, a trainer from SWADESHI, who is a staff member at Gandhi Gramam in Kozhikode.

Mr. Vinuraj started the session by speaking about the importance of keeping our skin free of diseases. He pointed out the fact that modern soaps are mainly made of animal fat and wax which are very harmful to the skin. He also informed us that perfumed soaps may smell good, but the chemicals in the perfumes are absorbed by the skin and hinders the functioning of the skin glands, thus becoming harmful for our body.

The next part of the programme was about making soaps and soap powder. He taught three methods of making soap and also gave information regarding the ingredients needed to make soap and soap powder. The participants noted down all the hints given by the trainer. The benefits of making soap and soap powder with eco friendly items like coconut oil, water, etc. were also discussed.

The second day was spent learning how to make cleaning lotion, phenoyl and candles.

The trainer divided the entire team of participants into groups consisting of students and staff. They made soaps at the school, which were later sold to the staff and students. The money that we collected through the selling of these items will be used for helping people who are in need.
